Scrounge is Lucy and Luke. They are guitar drums and a mic. The two members met at Goldsmiths and immediately threw themselves into South London's fertile DIY arts scene with a number of projects. Eventually these coalesced into Fame Throwa Records an underground music and promotions collective operating predominantly around the Five Bells venue and most recently the intense genre-blending post-punk of Scrounge.
‘Etch’ is their first single for fierce panda and profoundly well named it is too it being both edgy and itchy propelled along by little more than Luke’s sturdy rhythm and Lucy’s half-sung / half-drawled vocals for the first 90 seconds. There’s a hint of an early PJ Harvey-style sullen grandeur to proceedings and the shattered Banshees-esque guitar which crashes in around one minute 44 seconds really is a sound to behold.
Having spent the summer holidays impressing all and sundry at The Old Blue Last Paper Dress Vintage and Servant Jazz Quarters (with fellow Goldsmithians Another Sky) Scrounge are now prepping intensely for these excellently-placed shows here and here:
