a mentally bohemian fierce panda one sheet The Act: BAG OF CANS The Release: 'FAVOURITE SHIRT' The Format: DIGITAL SINGLE The Release Date: OCTOBER 2ND 2024 The Digital Link: orcd.co/favourite_shirt The Truth: Bag Of Cans are still very much a band which consists of George Baker (vocals / trumpet), George Bryce (guitar / vocals), Tom McGhie (guitar), Sam Watts (bass) and Joe Wilson (drums). Rather excellently for George and George, their last London show was at the George Tavern in east London, although they live in Norwich. 'Favourite Shirt' is their brrrand new single and a taster for their forthcoming five-track 'Favourite Shirt' EP on November 8th.
Bag of Cans' next hometownish shows looks a little bit like this: In true Bag Of Cans form, 'Favourite Shirt' is ragged and restless and gently reckless poet-punk rock with exasperated vocals and manic guitar interludes and lovely harmonic drop-ins, like some kind of mentally bohemian 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Is this the real life? Not arf, mate. Not for nothing are the Canners oft compared to the thumpingly cheery likes of Blur, The Kinks, Art Brut, Serious Drinking and, of course, Dingus Khan. This is what they have to say about the single: "'Favourite Shirt' is pretty much about how if the right person approached you on the wrong morning, they could convince you to join a cult, purely from confidence alone (although this is possibly something only we think when stressed and late in the mornings which is more often than not). It’s also just quite nice when a stranger you pass on the street has clearly bought themselves a new shirt and is having a great time. "Any recording bits that are fun? There’s some accidentally recorded seagull from the studio in Great Yarmouth that we liked so much we left it in." Last time out Bag Of Cans were releasing a brrrrand new song called 'Colchester Leisure World', a propulsive paean to the aquatic delights of Essex's sexiest watering hole which followed the thunderously inventive 'We Are A Band' album from 2023. Along the way they have mostly been playing Truck Fest and Y Not and Isle Of Wight Festivals and selling out the local luscious Art Centre. No less significantly, Joe finally learned how to find serenity within himself; George Bryce failed to do some basic mental maths and was embarrassed; Tom learned the terrifying truth about how figs are pollinated; George Baker finally learned to ride a bike; and Sam listened to the heartbeat of a muntjac deer on a cold autumn morning. |
