The Truth: SASHA ASSAD surely is one of the sassiest of all the sassy solo musical types on the la la London scene right now. Sashaying back into the release lounge after two thrillingly-received EPs - ‘Tearstick’ and ‘Casablanker’ - last year, the half-Egyptian / half-Nottinghamshirian is the outsider looking in with new single ‘La La London’.

Cynical and cyclical, ‘La La London’ finds Sasha and tight three-piece band in perky, riffy mode. Throw in a mad key change and a classic old school fade out and you have the nubile New Wave sound pupdated for 2025. Pump it up, indeed. It all fits too: Sasha’s sexuality and charmingly stroppy love shows - think Throwing Muses musing with The Pretenders - have established her on the feral leftfield alt.pop scene of the cockney metropolis, with all that that entails.

“This track is pretty much a diss-track to the city I call home - London,” states Sasha. “‘La La London’ takes aim at all of the flaws of the capital city. It’s essentially three minutes of me moaning about damp housing, rental costs, the price of the underground - the list goes on. “It’s a song for the working class heroes of London.”
