The Truth: Never knowingly resting comfortably on their musical laurels, Brummie psychrock and TV sports forcefielders SOLAR EYES are surging into the new year with the ‘Crooked Orbit’ EP, a collection of remixes of tracks from their lovingly-acclaimed ‘Solar Eyes’ album from 2024, released digitally on February 7th.

Lead-off single ‘She Kissed The Gun’ - already featured on Match of the Day - saw the blight of day on January 22nd and sets the cultural agenda in spades, the duo’s original Spaghetti Junction Western vibes now bedevilled by cosmic loops and crunching beats, like rolling around the back end of a particularly heady Glastonbury circa 1998. The other ‘Crooked Orbit’ mixes take on a similarly slinky psyched-out festival-hugging hue, as you may or may not expect from a band not averse to getting comparative nods to the likes of Kasabian and Chemical Brothers in their day jobs.

“I’d had this idea of doing a remix EP, as I’d always loved remixes of Primal Scream, UNKLE and Death in Vegas,” explains singer Glenn. “The ‘She Kissed The Gun’ remix on the EP sounds like it’s from something off ‘XTRMNTR’, which is my favourite Primals album. Then it all sort of fell into shape, and it’s even given the songs a new slant. It’s been joyous hearing the remixes coming in.” 

It’s a joyous listen, too, with flashes of fury and even echoes of techno techno techno. Are Solar Eyes twisting our melons, man? Yes, yes they are.
