The Truth: LeRiche is still very much a young alternative independent singer-songwriter from Newfoundland and Labrador, the most easterly province of Canada and a mere 36 hour drive from Toronto. Not for nothing is the Atlantic Puffin the official bird of the region. ‘X-Dreamer’ is LeRiche’s debut EP, released on fierce panda in the UK and Europe, and which consists of seven sweetly created paeans to the pains of being pure at art.
One of those tracks is ‘River Runs’, his current (second) single which revels in a casually timeless acoustic pop lushness, in this case sharing a gently galloping sensibility with ‘Horse With No Name’ by America. Substream premiered the excellently cinematic video - filmed in upstate New York - for 'River Runs' here: https://substreammagazine.com/2017/11/premiere-leriche-river-runs/
Elsewhere ‘X-Dreamer’ mixes the traditional acoustic tricks of the classic troubadour with a supple, subtle pop sensibility which manages to flirt with the spirits of George Michael, Blue Nile, Justin Timberlake and Paul Simon amidst the lushly layered soundscapes. It is all rather a melodic mystery, as you may expect from an artiste whose aim was to create songs which left room for the listener to interpret it in their own sweet manner. “I love writing in an open-ended way,” he confesses, “Just leaving a little room for the imagination to run wild."
For this is a singular talent with a heart full of song, a man on a mission “with no end in sight”, but who knows that the goal is to continue learning, connecting and sharing all of life’s experiences through soulful melodies. More pertinently, LeRiche is a man who says things like: “This is a song that started as a poem I wrote on the bus,” and, when asked about the meaning behind ‘X-Dreamer’, responds thusly:
“Dreaming. Whether you can't stop or you feel like you gave up long ago, these songs are for you, the X-Dreamer. I hope they reach you and resonate. I believe that anyone can be anything or anyone they so choose to be. Wish it into existence. I think, to some extent we are all doing this without even knowing it, but do we apply it to things we actually passionately desire? Engage in your wildest ideas and just see what happens. If we only live once, let's reach for the stars.”
"Dream you can see everything you'll ever be in an instance..."
