** THE CROOKES + FELT TIP + LONGFELLOW + DESPERATE JOURNALIST HIT CC14! ** The Thing: fierce panda and CC14 present The Acts: THE CROOKES + FELT TIP + LONGFELLOW + DESPERATE JOURNALIST The Place: LONDON CAMDEN BLACK CAP (171 Camden High Street, London NW1 7JY) The Date: FRIDAY JUNE 20TH 2014 The Doors: 7.30pm / The Tickets: http://www.wegottickets.com/londoninstereo/f/7281 The Plot: fierce panda and the Camden Crawl go together like Salt & Vinegar, like Salt & Lineker, like Gary Lineker & Gazza's salty World Cup ’90 tears, like salty sea dogs and the salty seaside and Veruca Salt b-sides. We were there at the beginning with the Wedding Present at Ningwalls in the previous century, we were there in the middle for dozens of breakthrough shows by the likes of Laura Marling, Crystal Fighters and Art Brut at Ningwalls, The Subways and The Kooks together at the Caernarvon Castle and of course shitdisco at the Electric Ballroom, and we're going to be there again this year as Camden Crawl is rebooted as CC14. The panda won’t be on its own – everyone all the way from ABC to ATR (aka Atari Teenage Riot) is taking to the streets of NW1 for two days on June 20th and 21st to check out all manner of musical menus and comedic ding dongs as outlined at www.thecamdencrawl.com – but we will be taking a few moments to stare at our navels and think of more novel salty naval-related references along with these handsome people here…
LARRY GUS (onstage 12.30am)
SCHOOL IS COOL (onstage 11.30pm) THE CROOKES (onstage 10.30pm) are four mannish types from Sheffield who are virtual stalwarts of the UK indie scene thanks to a manic work ethic which has produced one mini-album and three full albums on fierce panda over the past five years. 'Soapbox' is their newest leftfield opus which came out in the spring, and the band have already toured the UK, the US and huge cheesy chunks of the continent so far in 2014. Check out the excellent tour-tastic On The Road video for their current 'Don't Put Your Faith In Me' single at www.thecrookes.co.uk FELT TIP (onstage 9.30pm) are an enigmatic quartet from East London who make quietly quirky British Pop (NOT Britpop) which nods at Franz Ferdinand, Pulp and XTC. Their 'Simple Things' EP is released on fierce panda on June 9th and you can see the video for the funkdabulous title track at www.facebook.com/felttipband LONGFELLOW (onstage 8.30pm) are from South London and have been causing flutterings in the heart of Radioland with their 2014 singles 'Siamese Lover' and 'Kiss-Hug-Make Up'. Big, cuddly, heart-on-sleeve indierock is their forte, and they are quite possibly the first band from South London to play Camden Crawl having spent three whole weeks on the radio 2 playlist. Expect a mini-album called 'Prelude' in the summer. www.facebook.com/longfellowmusic DESPERATE JOURNALIST (onstage 7.30pm) are two boys and two girls who reside in North London, a bit like ABBA only less Swedish and a tad more cantankerous. They started causing ruffles in the underground with their 'Cristina' and 'Organ' tracks last year which blended gothic sensiblities with post-punk palpitations, and current single 'Happening' (out on Giant Haystacks / fierce panda) pulls off similar stunts with a hectic electric aplomb. www.facebook.com/desperatejournalist |
