HEY SHOLAY (onstage 10.15pm) are from Sheffield and play beamingly creative alternative rock music with pop hooks and progressive undercurrents. The sent us a demotape (a tape!) in fake bearskin (bearskin!!). Unsurprisingly we liked them so much in our gigantic communal penthouse office suite that Label Fandango released their 'Dreamboat' single in the autumn, and fierce panda will be putting out their frankly splendid debut album, called 'Clouds', in early 2012.
THE QUEENS ENGLISH (onstage 9.30pm) are based in Camden Town, where they wear unfeasibly tight trousers and write unceasingly propulsive British pop (not Britpop) songs which nod at The Jam, wink at The Smiths and add a tease of XTCs pop panache.
PURSON (onstage 8.45pm) arent afraid of the cosmic dark, thats for sure. They name check Amon Duul II, King Crimson and Witchfinder General, happily support Pentagram and with their flirty flutes and heavyweight guitar fondlings are embarking on one heck of a madrigal mystery tour. The fact that at the centre of this stoned circle is Rosalie from Ipso Facto, quite literally letting her hair down, only adds to the intrigue. |
