WHITE GIANT consist of three hirsute and tremendously skilled musical gentlemen from Leicestershire namely Kieran Fowkes (vox / guitar) Liam Jones (bass / vox) and Colin Miller (drums). Rather excellently at their very first rehearsal in an abandoned pork pie factory on the outskirts of Melton Mowbray they found their sound which is energetic groovy and loud with a dark dancey edge.
Unsurprisingly this has resulted in the release of the loud groovy and darkly energetic ‘Keep The Lights On’ released as part of fierce panda’s 2016 singles club (aka #singlesclub16 natch) and lolloping along fuelled by a flash of Foals a pinch of Placebo and a busload of beefed-up tension.
Or in their own words: “Combining diverse influences and sensibilities from each member's backgrounds and tastes White Giant create a sound which can quickly change from subtle textures and melodies to controlled chaos and back again never missing a beat.”
Those diverse influences converge on acts like Bonobo LCD Soundsystem and Rage Against The Machine. This inevitably means that one single White Giant song can incorporate a multitude of mood-swings and maddening styles propelled ever onwards by Kieran’s spectacularly fluid ricocheting guitar lines. Live it’s a hypnotic heavyweight near-abstract experience - massively engaging whilst also quietly enraged.
White Giant hereby join the massed ranks marching onwards beneath the fierce panda singles club 2016 banner whereby the indie label roustabouts release one hot new single by one hot new band each month of the year backed by the febrile munificence of the Arts Council. They therefore lovingly cuddle up to the esteemed likes of Alphaduka Cavalry Coquin Migale Chalk HUSH! and 485C. But not THAT lovingly…
“We’re not a ‘slow jam’ or shoegaze band ” decide White Giant with gigantic understatement. “We have an almost competitive approach to creating and rehearsing music. We go in for six hours and don’t come out until we either have three or four new song outlines or physically can’t play anymore - it’s like training session for us.”
