The Tracklisting: The Truth: Dapper Oxfordshire-based doomloaded troubadour ENJOYABLE LISTENS released his second album on April 5th, the follow-up to the slinkily acclaimed 'The Enjoyable Listen' from 2022. It's called 'Trapped In The Cage Of A Hateful Bird' and features eight full tracks packed with pathos, bathos and fruity melody a'plenty. Small wonder it should be available on blood red vinyl. Now, fresh from springtime supports with Pip Blom, The Bluetones and Ryder The Eagle, Enjoyable Listens heads into a summer of shows including an east London headline at the George Tavern - full dates below. Roaring out of the New Year blocks with rapturously-recieved live blowouts at the Rockaway Beach and Pandamonium Festivals, the Enjoyable Listens album was preceded by the single release of 'Tear Up The Picture Of My Kids' on January 31st, which very much meant what it said on the metaphorical single sleeve. Not for nothing has our hero been delicately described as the missing link between Rick Astley and Nick Cave. Because Enjoyable Listens is a man, a machine, a manly enigma wrapped up in a ball of mysterious dark wool. Luke Duffett - for 'tis he - has built an indierocksolid foundation using only melody, mayhem and an admirable ability to croon macabre pop smashes whilst teetering upon a pair of bar stools delivering deathless anecdotes. Sometimes bassist Dom from Fake Turins is on hand to trigger the laptop. Sometimes bassist Dom from Fake Turins is barely there at all. "‘Trapped In the Cage of A Hateful Bird’ is 2 years in the making and 2 years bad luck to anyone who listens to it cover to cover," muses the Luke man himself. "A selection of songs written across my career, with each one begging to be in the same classroom. Themes of apocalyptic doomstrolling mixed with a nostalgic yearning for teenage erotic ambition. It’s an ode to the fall of Babylon, a lamentation for the stark reality of missing the boat. This album mixes life and death with paper mâché and plasticine in the least ironic way imaginable." 'Tear Up The Picture Of My Kids' found our stool-balancing dreamer very much living the lyrical dream after the deadpan delights of 'That's Where The Blood Is' and 'Summer Hit' last year. His live happenings meanwhile have seen him support the vividly eclectic likes of A Flock Of Seagulls, Bluetones, China Bears, Desperate Journalist and Electric Six - and that's just A-to-E in the indie alphabet. Did we mention that Luke was also the bingo caller at Rockaway Beach? No, no we didn't. After selling out a joyous Paper Dress Vintage in April, come witness the Enjoyable Listens live extravaganza at these shows here:
