The truth: hailing from a sleepy town on the south coast of England, The Manatees (Jay, Tyler & Miller) combine hip-hop samples, funk inspired bass lines, thrashing guitars and candid lyrics to carve out their own soundscape within modern rock. Taking influence from Jungle, Wolf Alice and The Strokes, the three school friends now reside in London and flew into 2023 with a severely sold out Pandamonium! show at Dalston Victoria and a new single called 'The Sound', which warranted a Jack Saunders Next Wave interview on fabby Radio One.

Next up comes another kinetic leftfield dancefloor killer called 'Dream In Colour', released on February 23rd and taken from the EP of the same name which is due out on April 14th. The 'Dream In Colour' EP openly tackles the anxieties of finding your feet in an ever-changing world. The project emphasises the desperateness and loneliness of growing up, a feeling that seeps through the tracks.

"The title track, ‘Dream in Colour’, is about our aspirations undermining our reality," The Manatees muse. "Life can feel grey compared to the vibrant fantasies we play out in our heads. As a group we’re fairly sensitive to this, desperate to escape conventional living. It was the first track we wrote for the EP, very much acting as the catalyst for the rest of the project. We changed the pallet of the band a lot with this record, using vocoders, drum samples and whacky synthesisers for the first time. They turned out to be elements that would shape the entire EP."

"There's an obvious audience for The Manatees, one always eager for that next big song that's just the right mix of nostalgia and modernity." - Record of the Day

"The Manatees are bringing a much-needed dose of energy to our currently gloomy world"- When the Horn Blows
