a dramatically dayglo fierce panda one sheet The Band: THE MANATEES The Release: 'THE SOUND' The Format: DIGITAL SINGLE The Release Date: JANUARY 5TH 2023 The Digital Link: orcd.co/thesound The truth: hailing from a sleepy town on the south coast of England, The Manatees (Jay, Tyler & Miller) combine hip-hop samples, funk inspired bass lines, thrashing guitars and candid lyrics to carve out their own soundscape within modern rock. Taking influence from Jungle, Wolf Alice and The Strokes, the three school friends now reside in London and they roared into 2023 with the surging sound of 'The Sound', a Next Wave slot with Jack Saunders on Radio One and a sold out Pandamonium show at the Victoria in Dalston Village. Check the suitably hyperactive video for 'The Sound' here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_JIiZKAo8g The trio are set to release their debut 'Dream In Colour' EP in Spring 2023, which openly tackles the anxieties of finding your feet in an ever-changing world. The project emphasises the desperateness and loneliness of growing up, a feeling that seeps through the tracks. The EP blends guitar-based rock with indie craftiness and a pop infusion. Lead-off track 'The Sound', released on January 5th, also brings a degree of dayglo drama to the New Year party, it being two-and-a-half minutes of hyper upbeat bouyancy. "‘The Sound’ captures the mood of the EP perfectly - frantically searching for meaning or direction, with a hunch it might not be too far away," say The Manatees. "We can be fatalistic, but we’re optimists at heart. The idea that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel is important to us. 'The Sound' features hip-hop samples, vocoders and trumpets. Our first time using brass, very exciting! Miller even managed to squeeze a note or two out himself. With some layering (and tuning) it ended up sounding quite convincing."
The Manatees continue marching into 2023 at these shows here: Tickets: linktr.ee/themanateesofficial "The Manatees sounding really good on Radio 1" - Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1) "There's an obvious audience for The Manatees, one always eager for that next big song that's just the right mix of nostalgia and modernity." - Record of the Day "The Manatees are bringing a much-needed dose of energy to our currently gloomy world"- When the Horn Blows |
