an enigmatically cinematic fierce panda one sheet The Act: SOLAR EYES The Release: 'ALCRATRAZ' EP The Format: DIGITAL EP The Release Date: OCTOBER 28TH 2022 The Digital Link:orcd.co/solareyes_alcatrazep
The Tracklisting: “The Birmingham collective trail their second EP with howling harmonies over a relentless, riff-heavy rocker.” – The Observer “Swooping and captivating soundscapes and haunting vocals that pull you in with twanging guitars, and haunting strings that pulls the big sky of the wild west into the mystery of the Midlands.” – Louder Than War The Truth: Rousingly bruised Birmingham collective SOLAR EYES release a brand new EP called 'Alcatraz' and share the road-trippin' video for the generously trippy 'Save My Soul' track on October 28th. 'Alcatraz' comes hot on the Cuban heels of their lavishly DIY debut 'Dreaming of the Moon' EP, released earlier this year. They returned in August with title track 'Alcatraz', a stomping call to alt.rocking arms, followed by the enigmatically cinematic, Tarantino-esque 'I See The Sun'. Suitably, the 'Alcatraz' EP is a cosmic melting pot of influences that range from Morricone to Pizzorno. Glenn Smyth leads the creative way, ably flanked by Tom Ford and Seb Maynard-Francis, and together their SOLAR EYES sounds have so far picked up radio action from XFM’s John Kennedy and BBC 6Music’s Steve Lamacq along with the BBC’s Mickey Bradley and Billy Sloan. They understand the power of visuals as well - the 'Save My Soul' video has been created by regular collaborator Tom Wagstaff, who also directed the video for 'Alcatraz'. The previous 360 degree 'Dreaming Of The Moon' video, which was created by Gorillaz cohort Matt Watkins, is now nudging 110,000 views. Both collaborators create a suitably intense visual world to illustrate the ideas spinning around Glenn Smyth’s mind. It's quite the place to visit. Recent performances at Deadwax in Digbeth and the Moseley Folk Festival saw rowdy crowds enthralled by their stompingly sonically truthful anthems. Upcoming live dates are below, with more to be announced.
