The Truth: ' I Love E9' is the dazzling debut album by CHILI PALMER, the soul-popping duo who are as mysterious as Daft Punk at a dimly lit fancy dress ball. Not so much a band as "a collective of similar thinking creative minds", that communal vibe reached a perky peak with new single and lockdown anthem 'Cocktail Nights', which saw Homerton soulboy Albert Gold and Sheffield singer Gia Ford take the mics for some exuberant harmonic duelling fun over a killer Massive Attack groove.

CHILI PALMER snuck out of the covid shadows with the excellently sumptuous 'CHILI PALMER' EP last year. A smattering of those tracks - the squelchy 'S.I.T.', the stylish Stylistics vibe of 'A.O.M.L.' and the heartbreak drama that is 'Unrequited' - have found their way onto this album. Alongside them are six tracks which were vocalled from scratch to full studio glory in the space of three days, in true modern lockdown tradition. Those tracks cruise from pure Northern Soul to battered powerballads; from slinky '70s Philly soul to sadfaced disco bliss, but always aware of their East End surroundings, as you may or may not expect from an outfit who say thusly:

"Musically and production wise, the main influences for the record come from The Blackbyrds, Phil Spector, Prince, Glen Campbell and Frank Ocean. With regards to the album, we think it’s essentially a celebration of soul and pop music with an emphasis on hanging in Hackney - lyrically, Albert is laying bare the modern day minefield of online dating and the search for real love."

'I Love E9' by CHILI PALMER hereby becomes the first release as part of the fierce panda Albums Club 21/22, whereby fierce panda records releases four debut albums within 12 months by four English acts with the admirable fiscal support of the National Lottery Project Grants via the Arts Council.
