* OH MY FRANTIC FACEMASKS, IT'S...PANDEMICAMONIUM! *
* HATCHAM SOCIAL, PRIMA QUEEN, SCROUNGE, MEMES, JEKYLL, OLI SWAN & THE DANGEROUS CREATURES AND MANY OTHER WILD ANIMALS CELEBRATE THE ESCAPE TO POP VICTORY! *
Well, what a panda palaver. We've been locked up, rocked down and totes NOT free to do whatever we want, any old time as the coronavirus has fizzed hither and zither across the battered, tattered live gigosphere since the meddlesome middlings of March 2020 ...And now? Baby we're bored! But we're back! We think!
So regular viewers will know that since the very late 1990s we have hosted a New Year Gigging Thing called Pandamonium!, which showcases groovy fresh bands in the post-Christmas crush. In the late 1990s we were chilling with the likes of Coldplay at the Bull & Gate, and 21 years later, on the eve of the fierce pandemic, we were hitting the heights with the likes of Italia 90 at the Lexington.
We didn't do it this New Year because of the second covid wave. But never fear, when gigs are near we're always here. And so we're putting on a wee mini-fest called Pandemicamonium featuring a slew of panda bandas and friends to celebrate some kind of return to whatever-normality-will-look-like, rather like this...
Oh my frantic facemasks, it's...PANDEMICAMONIUM!!
The Venue: LONDON DALSTON VICTORIA
The Cost: FREE ENTRY
The Week One Shows:
SEPTEMBER 27TH: PRIMA QUEEN + Special Guests CHINA BEARS + ALBERT GOLD
An evening of smooth melodic chewiness fronted up by exquistely poised all-girl outfit Prima Queen and bulked out by special fierce panda guests China Bears and hepcat Homerton soulboy Albert Gold.
SEPTEMBER 28TH: MEMES v SCROUNGE + KILL THE ICON + ENJOYABLE LISTENS
An evening of hectic actionings from duelling duos: unstable panda labelmates Scrounge and MEMES face off with their brash, gigging-hardened post-punk pummellings; Kill The Icon throw sonic grenades into the unguarded garden party; and Enjoyable Listens live up their name with some kick Astley-shaped shapes.
SEPTEMBER 29TH: GARDENING + HEADSHRINKERS + ROLLA
An evening of eclectic, and indeed electric, guitar rumbings: Gardening dig deep for their crafty American Collegiate Rock vibes; Headshrinkers head down from the Midlands to expand their thunderous post-punk horizons; and Rolla bring some proper rock'n'rolla from Manchester.
The Week Two Shows:
OCTOBER 4TH: JEKYLL + POLARIZED EYES + WYNONA BLEACH
An evening of vivaciously understated alt.rock grumblings: Blackpool rock kids Jekyll throw some stadium indie shapes, Polarized Eyes are paralysingly young emopunks and Wynona Bleach, fronted by the green-haired songstress Melyssa Shannon, head in from Belfast with some fuzzed up emogazing. Expect lots of eyeliner, and not just on Melyssa...
OCTOBER 5TH: HATCHAM SOCIAL + GLADBOY + SUPER MARINE
An evening of fragrantly taut indiepop pungency with oft-beloved Hatcham Social playing their flrst live show for five whole years to tie in with a career-spanning panda compimilation release. Support comes from Norwich's nonchalently uptight Gladboy and South Wales' bright-eared rocksters Super Marine.
OCTOBER 6TH: OLI SWAN & THE DANGEROUS CREATURES + McLEISH & SPENCER + MODERN HINTERLAND
An evening of swooning alt.pop loveliness as Oli Swan swans in with the lovely pop swoonings of his 'All My Friends Are Lonely' EP. Belsize Park duo McLeish & Spencer and Cambridge troubadour Modern Hinterland add to the melancholic melodic overdrive.
