February 1st Glasgow Hug & Pint The Truth: “MEMES is a duo from Glasgow comprised of ME and ME, because we are selfish genes. Since forming in 2019 - with a difficult-to-Google name – several gigs in Glasgow and London, two single releases, favourable comments on the music, unfavourable comments on the ‘dancing’ and a BBC live session for Steve Lamacq have led us to this single release. ‘J.O.B.S.’ was written with a red pen, whilst we should have been working.” So say MEMES, the dynamic Scottish combo who’ve been causing poet-punk ructions with their two man / one laptop sonic assaults and have been busy playing some of the sweariest live shows known to alt.rock-kind with the likes of Mice On Mars and Egyptian Blue. ‘J.O.B.S.’ is their new single which is speedy and pumpy and desperate and features Steve J.O.B.S. on the artwork. Of course! By some excellent coincidence MEMES are in the process of releasing a lovely vinyl 7” on Six Tonnes De Chair Records featuring the tub-thumping funbags of ‘Blah Blah Blah’, ‘Funny Man’ and ‘Happy Shopper’. |
