a devilishly DIY-oh-why fierce panda one sheet The Act: SCROUNGE The Track: ‘PURPOSE’ The Format: DIGISINGLE The Release Date: JUNE 11TH 2019 The Digital Link: https://orcd.co/scrounge_purpose The Truth: Scrounge is Lucy and Luke. They are guitar, drums and a mic. The two members met at Goldsmiths, and immediately threw themselves into South London's fertile DIY arts scene with a number of projects which coalesced into Fame Throwa Records, an underground music collective operating predominantly around the Five Bells venue, and, most recently, the intense, genre-punching post-punk of Scrounge. ‘Purpose’ is their third single and the first to be taken from their debut EP, due for release on fierce panda later this year. And yes, we know that the release date of June 11th is a Tuesday. Like previous getting-to-the-point one word releases ‘Etch’ and ‘Crimson’ ‘Purpose’ is a short sharp shock of devlish DIY energy in hot pursuit of the sonic truth, all signed, sealed and delivered in two minutes and 41 shouty, melody-slamming seconds. Or, in their own words… “'Purpose' tackles themes of loss: the loss of faith in the supposedly stable and reliable pillars of family, politics and religion, the loss of purpose, and ultimately the creeping nihilism which takes hold when faced with this realisation.” ‘Purpose’ was written and recorded in the Scrounge homelands of Bermondsey, just south of the Thames. The lyrics are by Luke (though this isn’t always the case). It was produced by Sam Miller (VANT) and mastered by Andy Butler at Metropolis Studios. Continuing the local community spirit the artwork is by previous collaborator and fellow Goldsmiths alumnus Amanda Tooke, while the press pictures were again shot in south east London by photographer Suzi Corker with David Curtis-Ring (Arctic Monkeys) on art direction duties. Having spent much of the past six months supporting the mighty likes of Another Sky, Desperate Journalist, Phobophobes, Float and Hater Scrounge are now readying themselves to get thoroughly disorientated at these shattered shows here and here:

OCTOBER 23RD LONDON STOKE NEWINGTON THE WAITING ROOM "A powerful, snarling statement of post-punk energy...a meteoric rising force who are able to intrigue, shock and utterly enthrall." - The Line Of Best Fit "They're capable of juddering the socks off your feet, and rocking you quietly into a cry-sleep alike." - DIY "Once you have seen them, I can promise that you will want to see them again...Their collaborative efforts are quite unique in the world of two-person bands, and what comes through the speakers is most definitely hypnotically compelling at all times." - Loud Women “Oozing the duo’s epic, swirling wall of sound, with ‘Etch’ Scrounge have blown me away once again, marking themselves out as definite ones to watch.” - Get In Her Ears |
