The Plot: So in the spring of 2018 the weird and marginally wondering fierce panda label launched the second fierce panda EP Club. This followed hot on the heels of the inaugural fierce panda 2017 EP Club, which saw the label release six EPs by six new acts over the course of 12 months with the esteemed support of Arts Council England. Never ones to mess with a formula the second EP Club sticks rigorously to the original template by delivering half a dozen fresh excellent Extended Play releases from a boisterous bunch of alt.pop boys. We close the campaign by tying those boys together on the release of 'The Second fierce panda EP Club EP' on March 29th with a launch party occurring two days earlier at The Social in the West End of London village with China Bears + National Service + Jekyll all playing storming alt.rock-smashing sets. The EP Club EP acts:
JEKYLL joined the panda - quite literally - halfway through last year's Great Escape. Four Blackpool rocksters mining the rich seam of uplifting misery running between Radiohead and Editors, their recent radio smashes have been 'Plan A', 'So Wrong' and their EP Club EP track 'Mania'.
NATIONAL SERVICE are four broody gentlemen lurking in North London who make slow-moving alt.rock with grace and gravitas and the occasional elegant explosion of melody.
National Service's 'Foreign Love' EP was released on October 12th 2018.
SAD BOYS CLUB are a bunch of flamboyant youths flirting with mainstream melodies while nodding at the cuddlesome gothic flavourings of The Cure.
PEEPING DREXELS are self-proclaimed "South London scum with sloppy beats and sleazy melodies". 'Ray Purchase' was their first panda single which pays tribute to the impossibly well-groomed 'Toast' TV lothario.
VC PINES is one Jack Mercer, a man who makes bendy soul anthems for the broken generation. 'Garden Of The Year' was his first panda single and wormed its way onto the BBC 6music playlist for three weeks last year.
CHINA BEARS are four intense sorts who make precise, politely punishing emo anthems with an intellectual air and some bloody ace guitars. |
