a rouge-and-ready fierce panda one sheet The Act: SCROUNGE The Track: ‘CRIMSON’ The Format: DIGISINGLE The Release Date: FEBRUARY 1ST 2019 The Digital Link: smarturl.it/scrounge_crimson The Truth: Scrounge is still Lucy and Luke. They are guitar, drums and a mic. The two members met at Goldsmiths, and immediately threw themselves into South London's fertile DIY arts scene with a number of projects. Eventually, these coalesced into Fame Throwa Records, an underground music and promotions collective operating predominantly around the Five Bells venue, and, most recently, the intense, genre-blending post-punk of Scrounge. ‘Etch’ was their first single for fierce panda last October, and profoundly well named it was too, it being edgy and itchy and decorated with shards of thoroughly shattered post-punk guitar. Now comes ‘Crimson’, another (sh)outburst of clangingly energised DIY tension which nods at PJ Harvey and Sonic Youth whilst hurtling towards the 2.42 finish line. Or, in their own words… “’Crimson’ is about the mythologies that one builds up around oneself, and what happens when those mythologies rub up against reality and their flaws are exposed. We recorded it in an afternoon with our mate Mark in South Bermondsey, writing and rewriting the lyrics as we played, and worked hard to channel the disorientating feelings. Confusion and loss are at the heart of the enterprise…” Having spent much of the autumn supporting the mighty likes of Another Sky, Desperate Journalist, Phobophobes, Float, Giant Party and Hater Scrounge are now readying themselves to get thoroughly disorientated at these casually-placed shows here and here: MARCH 30TH BERLIN BANG ON FEST

“Oozing the duo’s epic, swirling wall of sound, with ‘Etch’ Scrounge have blown me away once again, marking themselves out as definite ones to watch.” |
