an intensely post-punking fierce panda one sheet The Act: SCROUNGE The Track: ‘ETCH’ The Format: DIGISINGLE The Release Date: OCTOBER 12TH 2018 The Digital Link: smarturl.it/scrounge_etch The Truth: Scrounge is Lucy and Luke. They are guitar, drums and a mic. The two members met at Goldsmiths, and immediately threw themselves into South London's fertile DIY arts scene with a number of projects. Eventually, these coalesced into Fame Throwa Records, an underground music and promotions collective operating predominantly around the Five Bells venue, and, most recently, the intense, genre-blending post-punk of Scrounge. ‘Etch’ is their first single for fierce panda, and profoundly well named it is, too, it being both edgy and itchy, propelled along by little more than Luke’s sturdy rhythm and Lucy’s half-sung / half-drawled vocals for the first 90 seconds. There’s a hint of an early PJ Harvey-style sullen grandeur to proceedings, and the shattered Banshees-esque guitar which crashes in around one minute 44 seconds really is a sound to behold. Having spent the summer holidays impressing all and sundry at The Old Blue Last, Paper Dress Vintage and Servant Jazz Quarters (with fellow Goldsmithians Another Sky) Scrounge are now prepping intensely for these excellently-placed shows here and here:
THURSDAY OCTOBER 24TH: LONDON LEXINGTON
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 29TH LONDON THE SOCIAL “They’re capable of juddering the socks off your feet, and rocking you quietly into a cry-sleep alike.” DIY Magazine “There’s so much I like about this…we all need some Scrounge in our lives.” Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales “Lucy’s voice is something to admire; both rich and vociferous when required, the duo can sound like the sum of their numbers or rival a full quintet with their projected sound. Straddling between more psychedelic offerings with thoughtful lyricism to full-on outburst with supporting aggressive riffs, whatever’s cooking in the Scrounge camp the result is unmissable.” - Fortitude Magazine "One of the most exciting bands I've come across in a long time."
