A monster monster fierce panda one sheet The Act: JEKYLL The Release: ‘SO WRONG’ The Format: DIGISINGLE The Label: fierce panda The Release Date: SEPTEMBER 7TH 2018 The Truth: JEKYLL are four alt.rock kids from Blackpool, England. They still consist of Joel Foster (vocals / guitar), Lewis Armistead (bass), Liam Singleton (drums) and Mike Spence (guitar). ‘So Wrong’ is their second single on fierce panda, and the second track to be taken from their current coruscating ‘Jekyll’ EP. It’s the shortest song on the ‘Jekyll’ EP as well, clocking in at a svelte two minutes 41 seconds of howlingly lowslung alt.rock rocketing. Or, in the words of the band: “‘So Wrong’ was recorded at Steel City studios in Sheffield. A live favourite, it showcases our more energetic, aggressive side and is also more stripped back than other songs from the EP. Lyrically, the song addresses regret and dissociation. It’s about recognising changes in your mental and physical state and not welcoming these changes. It’s about losing control and wanting to be a better person.” Happily fierce panda saw Jekyll play not once but twice at The Great Escape and were so smitten by a complex sound likened to arena rock grown-ups running from Radiohead to Editors we did the deal there and then by the sea. Barely a fortnight later the scowling, sultry ‘Plan A’ was the first single to be released off from the summertime ‘Jekyll’ EP. It received admiring glances from Steve Lamacq on BBC 6music and earned Jekyll an interview on his Recommends show as well as loving local coverage from BBC Radio Lancashire. In the exalted atmosphere of the known blogosphere it was described as “soaring and triumphant” by This Feeling, who made it Track Of The Day over at www.gigslutz.co.uk/feeling-track-day-jekyll-plan/ The ‘Jekyll’ EP also features select previous DIY Jekyll releases including ‘Wounds’, which opened up various excellent doors including festival appearances at Sheffield's Tramlines, Liverpool's Threshold, South Yorkshire's Blackfest, Manchester's Sonder Fest, Lancaster Music Festival, The International Pop Overthrow Festival and Blackpool's Rebellion Punk Fest, as well as support slots with Vukovi, October Drift, Racing Glaciers, Demob Happy, The Membranes, Glass Caves and The Tapestry. The ‘Jekyll’ EP is also the first release as part of the Second Fierce Panda EP Club, wherein six new bands will each release an EP over the course of the next year. This follows the fierce panda 2017 EP Club wherein the likes of Fightmilk, The Caress and August Child flaunted their wares, all with the sterling support of Arts Council England. But you'll be okay with that, because you could do a lot worse than this being the last thing you hear.” - Vulture Hound on 'Wounds' |
