The Truth: AUGUST CHILD is a gently pained singer-songwriter based living in Leytonstone but with roots in St Albans in the aching heart of Hertfordshire. He combines intricate guitar with intimate lyrics for stirring and powerful performances, and the 'Burn For The Tide' is his brand new EP, released on February 23rd.
Having developed his sound listening to artists such as Damien Rice, Cat Stevens and Elliot Smith it is safe to say that August Child has now found a distinctive musical aesthetic of his own. Recorded at Old Street’s Fortress Studios with Night Games mastermind Paul Cousins, the four new tracks on 'Burn For The Tide' exhibit an evolution and maturity to the artist’s creativity, not least with the complex-yet-flowing likes of lead-off single 'Honeycomb Prison' and the presciently-titled 'Ebb & Flow'. We'd describe the August Child sound 'fearsomely fragile', and we wouldn't be wrong.
Following the release of his 2015 debut track ‘Blind’ and subsequent EP ‘Feral Bliss’, August Child was quickly featured by Right Chord Music, Stereofox and BBC Introducing Beds, Bucks & Herts, playing as live featured artist for the latter. August Child is a seasoned performer on the London gigging scene too, drawing audiences to acoustic showcases and headline performances alike, whilst becoming a regular favourite at Sofar Sounds events. In October 2017 he made his first tour to Italy for shows in Milan, Turin and Asti, including an exclusive perforace at _resetfestival.
“Simple guitar and layered voice arrangement draws you in close and every note and every word becomes a focus.” – Right Chord Music
‘Burn For The Tide’ hereby joins the fierce panda 2017 EP Club, becoming the sixth of six special EPs created by half a dozen febrile news acts and released by the panda over 12 months with the support of Arts Council England. The other five EPs were by acts with names like Cavalry, Fightmilk, Leaone, The Caress and Ghost Suns, and a choice selection of those cats will be playing the EP party at The Social as mentioned somewhere below…
