The Truth: The Caress are an alternative three piece combo based in New Cross, South East London, comprising of brothers Tom Easton (guitar and vocals), Ben Easton (bass and vocals) and Sam Easton (drums and vocals). Formed in December 2015, their music is visceral and melodic, with a quintessentially British charm. They draw mainly on influences such as Phil Spector’s Wall Of Sound, ‘60s Girl bands and ‘80s indie acts. Lyrically they try to find the beauty and intrigue in the mundane and grey, through stories of youth, sex, naivety and loneliness.
Released on September 15th, the 'You Say I Kiss Like A Girl' EP features four tracks which tick all of the above boxes and more. ‘You’re Always Miles Away’ was the first single off the EP with its reverb-drenched tambourine, atmospheric guitars and handclaps inspired by Northern Soul stompers. It was Steve Lamacq's Livener on BBC 6 Music and premiered by Clash who described it as "a coy blast of melodic wordsmithery" over here: http://www.clashmusic.com/news/premiere-the-caress-youre-always-miles-away
Next up to radio will be the excellently buoyant opener ‘Man Up’, while ‘Stephanie (Can I Apply Your Sun Cream)?’ is gloriously lysergic and closing track ‘Breakfast With Leather Apron’ is a great big slab of reverb-laden malevolence…something for all the family, then.
‘You Say I Kiss Like A Girl’ follows the singular DIY likes of ‘Why Don’t We Take A Walk By The Sea?’, ‘Animal Passion’ and The Caress's most recent self-release, the painstakingly lovely ‘A Picture By The Thames In The Winter’.
‘You Say I Kiss Like A Girl' is also the fourth release as part of fierce panda’s 2017 EP Club, wherein half a dozen young roustabouts rustle up debut EP releases with the dignified support of Arts Council England. The Caress hereby join a hall of infamy featuring Ghost Suns (released in March), Leaone (May) and Fightmilk (July) peddling their Extended Play wares.
