** SUFFOLK CROONSTER LEAONE SEEKS REDEMPTION ON 'OH, MY SWEETEST SIN' EP ** A soothingly fragile one sheet The Act: LEAONE The Release: ‘OH, MY SWEETEST SIN' The Format: DIGITAL EP
The Tracklisting: The iTunes Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/oh-my-sweetest-sin-ep/id1237630280 The Focus Date: JUNE 2ND 2017 The Label: FIERCE PANDA The Truth: LEAONE (pronounced ‘Lee-own’) is a smouldering talent from Beccles in Suffolk. Ostensibly one man with a deep, rich vocal sound which has seen him described as the missing link between Leonard Cohen and Lana Del Ray, 'Oh, My Sweetest Sin' is his debut EP which brings together his three supremely sombre singles thus far, those singles being 'Young Green Eyes', 'Goldtooth' and current crush 'Fly, My Swallow', the video for which you can see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DGUnFZrsUU&t=35s The 'Fly, My Swallow' track has received play from Huw Stephens on Radio One as well as support from both BBC Introducing Norfolk AND Suffolk. Produced by the singer himself, and mixed by Jim Lowe (Stereophonics), Leaone wrote the elegant, gallant ‘Oh, My Sweetest Sin’ EP in his parent’s attic after a series of events (losing his girlfriend, losing his job and getting mugged) led him back home to his native East Anglia. But don’t think these losses make Leaone a loser – ‘Oh, My Sweetest Sin’ might wallow in misery but the muscular melodies suggest a redemptive tone.
Backed by live guitar, drums, keys and a multitude of symphonic effects Leaone has supported the likes of Emmy The Great, Idlewild’s Roddy Woomble, Wooden Arms, Desperate Journalist and Animal Noise. He eased his way into 2017 with a perfectly-balanced triplet of shows in Norwich, Dalston and at Stowmarket's John Peel Centre, and he follows that hattrick with this EP launch party here: Intriguingly, in an interview with M Magazine late last year, when asked why music was important Leaone replied: “Because it helps to contain my madness”. Something broodingly sensational this way comes… Leaone's 'Oh, My Sweetest Sin' EP is the second release out of the paws of the fierce panda 2017 EP Club, which is supported by the (he)arty generosity of Arts Council England. The first EP was by electro-popsters Ghost Suns in March, the third EP will be by indietykes Fightmilk in the summer. |
