** MANCHESTER’S AFFAIRS THROW SOME HEROIC SHAPES! ** A synthetically grandiose fierce panda one sheet The Band: AFFAIRS The Tunes: ‘LIFE OF LEISURE’ The Format: DOWNLOAD SINGLE The Label: fierce panda The Release Date: OCTOBER 14TH 2016 The iTunes Link: https://goo.gl/3TRTHb The Spotify Link: https://goo.gl/G63aJw The Truth: Hailing from the dark industrial heart of Manchester, Affairs are five men armed with smart haircuts and giant stadium-friendly synth-pop tunes. They consist of James Robinson (vocals), Liam Grindell (guitar / backing vocals), Jack Richards (bass), Dan Parker (guitar / synth) and Michael Bradnam (drums), and ‘Life Of Leisure’ is their brand new release as part of fierce panda’s 2016 singles club. They’ve got form, have Affairs: having originally hooked up together at Hull University their early releases ‘Blood Science’ and ‘Brothers’ revealed a band who revel in creating immense songs with seriously heroic hooks. The recent excellent ‘Stained Gold’ EP, featured the oft-acclaimed and much-airplayed tracks ‘Runaway’ and ‘Play’ upped the sparkling alt.pop guitar ante. And ‘Life Of Leisure’ sees the quintet push on ever further, with the baritone of James Robinson emboldening an intelligent, lush soundscape which nods at the ‘80s but keeps a steady eye on the future. This is how it should be for a band oft-compared with the likes of The Smiths, Simple Minds and Wild Beasts, but singer James isn’t just there for deep, rich emoting: as befits Affairs’ grand musical gestures, the frontman has garnered gawps and plaudits a’plenty for his extraordinarily flexible live appearances, cavorting much like Morrissey in a wind tunnel. Small wonder that in the warning tale of ‘Life Of Leisure’ he should be singing “You’re losing your senses / You’re not really there at all…” In short, this is art with a heart. But don’t take our words for it, have a listen to singer James, who says: “’Life Of Leisure’ marks a new beginning for Affairs; their first work with producer, James Kenosha, and their first release under fierce panda. Recorded in James' East Coast studio, not a million miles away from the city of Hull where the band spent their formative years, the song encapsulates the relentless chase of the high life, while warning of the inevitable lows that follow.” Affairs hereby join the platoon of pop nugget-creators (see Alphaduka, Cavalry, Coquin Migale, HUSH!, Chalk, 485C) who have been parachuted in as part of fierce panda’s 2016 singles club whereby the label releases 12 ace new releases by 12 ace new bands throughout the year with the cannily supportive support of The Arts Council.
