*FAKE LAUGH RETURNS WITH AA SIDE 'MIND TRICKS // BIRDSONG LULLABY'* *SINGLE LAUNCH SHOW AT SERVANT JAZZ QUARTERS FEB 23RD* Almost exactly a year since he kicked off the fierce panda singles ’15 with ‘Kinda Girl’, we’re over the moon to announce that Kamran Khan’s ‘Fake Laugh’ will return to the label for a brand new AA Side single, ‘Mind Tricks / Birdsong Lullaby’, produced by Kamran himself and Theo Verney.
The single will lead with Mind Tricks and will be released on January 29th on Fierce Panda in UK/EU, and Canvasback Music (Alt – J, Frightened Rabbit) in North America. Kam says of the track: “It's kind of about the sometimes up and downy nature of existence, going from feeling like you're king of the world to the worst person of all time. I suppose it's also about thinking things that seem crazy, but very real at the same time. The song tries to accept that sort of grey area problem in a way.” Musically, ‘Mind Tricks’ is the ‘big-mug-of-tea-by-the-fire-on-a-cold-wet afternoon/early evening’ of indie, overflowing with rich, heartwarming melodies whilst Kam’s immaculate vocals wrap up the arrangement perfectly, like a warm, fuzzy blanket. Over the course of a year, we’ve seen Fake Laugh develop from a master of bedroom lo-fi to a scholar of sophisticated indie-pop. The live show has been refined by supporting the likes of Genghar, Girlpool and Ride, to name a few. Of course we’re not the only ones to have been won over by Fake Laugh’s dreamy sorcery. The NME were more than impressed by his “eloquent ‘80s-tinged melodies” and The Line Of Best Fit said Fake Laugh’s music “jangles and ripples with the glory of a thousand summer dusks”. Can’t say it better than that… Check out the Stereogum Premiere of Mind Tricks Fake Laugh will celebrate the release of Mind Tricks/Birdsong Lullaby with a show at Dalston’s Servant Jazz Quarters on Feb 23rd 2016. |
