Fierce Panda Singles Artist/Track: Fake Laugh – Kinda Girl Release Date: Jan 19th Cat no: ning281 As the music community speculates as to what’s going to be pricking up our collective ears in 2015, we here at fierce panda are ferociously excited to kick off the year by inviting the beloved one-off single format back to the label. The aim is to showcase and support a variety of incredibly talented new artists from around the world, and share what we believe to be thoroughly satisfying music. Singles will be available digitally and physically in the charming, and practical, form of a strictly limited beer mat. To launch the project, we turn to London based, Kamran Khan’s solo effort, Fake Laugh. Khan’s mesmerising youthful croon and unique layered vocals are used to full effect in this first single, Kinda Girl - a melancholic ballad laden with rich, swept guitars and bittersweet bass lines that allude to the introspective love songs of Roy Orbison whilst harnessing the lo-fi magic of contemporaries, Mac DeMarco and Sean Nicholas Savage. Of course we’re not the only ones to have been won over by Fake Laugh’s dreamy sorcery. Praise comes from the likes of indie tastemakers, Gold Flake Paint who find Khan on “dynamic form”, while the NME were more than impressed by his “eloquent ‘80s-tinged melodies”. Keep an eye out for Fake Laugh live, where you can see these talents translated to the stage.
