a sweetly spotted fierce panda one sheet The Act: GULZ The Track: 'HOLY SODA' The Format: DIGITAL SINGLE The Release Date: JULY 20TH 2023 The Digital Link: orcd.co/holysoda The Truth: the world is not blessed with Asian-cum-Geordie singing indie doctors, but then again the world has yet to be exposed to the multi-tiered talents of one Gulz Dhanoya, who blends medicine with melody on his fierce panda debut single, 'Holy Soda', released on July 20th and taken from the forthcoming 'Age Of Youth' EP. As a burgeoning songwriter/producer/ then-medical student Gulz started crafting and releasing tunes from his bedroom in Newcastle, which garnered BBC Introducing, local radio and media interest. With gig offers coming in left, right and centre, Gulz drafted in his closest allies / fellow medical students to join the live band. Show after show, song after song, the boys got stronger - and so did their loyal fan base, ensuring sell out headline shows at the Camden Assembly, the Old Blue Last, The O2 Academy Islington, Ronnie Scott’s and more. The boys headed to LeMob Studios (formally Lynchmob, home for Primal Scream, Noel Gallagher, Mark Ronson, Michael Kiwanuka) to record their debut EP ’Age Of Youth'. The four-track release is a culmination of the blood, sweat, tears and beers the boys have put in over the last two and a half years, encapsulating the shared triumphs and disasters of youth, touching upon friendships, romance and the fear of ‘becoming a proper adult’. The ultimate conclusion being? Our twenties won't last forever, so let’s drink and dance while we can. As a debut single 'Holy Soda' has got it all: catchy hooks, bright, unpretentious, clunky guitars with a real earworm chorus. It encapsulates being young, dumb and alive today, with witty quips and silly lines: ‘She’s into romance, she only dates guys in finance’. ’Cheap dates and summer thrills - all your friends are in love, so you hope it’s real’. It's a perfect intro to an artist and band that manage to hit the sweetspot between indie sleaze and mainstream pop effortlessly. Expect chaos, laughter, major chords, plastic pint cups, and guitar-occupied boogieing. This is just the beginning. Come get your health benefits at these Gulz live shows here:
