A furiously charming fierce panda one sheet The Band: BAG OF CANS The Release: 'HOSTAGE AT THE DINNER TABLE' The Format: DIGITAL SINGLE The Release Date: WEDNESDAY APRIL 5TH 2023 The Digital Link: orcd.co/hostage_at_the_dinner_table The Truth: Once contenders for the crown of "the least self-conscious band in Norwich", and now challenging for the title of "the actual biggest new band from Norwich, actually", Bag Of Cans consist of George Baker (vocals / trumpet), George Bryce (guitar / vocals), Tom McGhie (guitar), Sam Watts (bass) and Joe Wilson (drums). The quintet are poised to spread the thundering musical love far and beyond East Anglia with new single 'Hostage At The Dinner Table', out on April 5th, and a beefy slew of live shows to coincide - full dates below. 'Hostage At The Dinner Table' follows the panda singles 'Pub Money' and the Yuletide smash 'I'm Sorry Mum That I Was Hungover This Christmas'. These tracks, like so many more, will be appearing on Bag Of Cans' debut album, 'We Are A Band', which is released on June 9th with a launch party at the local Arts Centre occurring on the same night. 'Hostage At The Dinner Table' also fulfils the raucous Bag Of Cans conceptual remit, it being hectic and cutting and pop-tastic and charmingly furious. Or, in their own words... It’s been in the calendar for weeks. After running into each other at a mutual friend’s party, both your other halves started chatting and before you could intervene the immutable “you must come over for dinner” was heard. Even at school you never really liked him. You remember the pride with which he revealed his three As on results day, along with his place at “Bristol, obvs mate”. Off he went, before getting a job in the city at his uncle’s firm. Now he’s coming round on Wednesday evening. Brilliant. Night of: two drinks in and it’s not that bad, maybe you were wrong to dread. His anecdote about last winter’s skiing holiday when “that ledge Hugo kacked his pants” is admittedly quite funny. Then it starts. The loaded questions. The smug looks at his partner as he slowly unpicks what you have or haven’t done over the last 10 years. Everything’s a competition. You can smell the coke problem. “Oh. You’re earning that are you?” Armies of fantasy rage circle. You imagine hurling your beer at his self-congratulatory face and telling him to piss off back to Fulham. But you say nothing, slap on a smile of self-deprecation and head to the kitchen for the main course. Your girlfriend offers a comforting tone and a hand on the arm. You can’t hear her though, you’re too busy summoning phlegm. Once sufficient goo is collected on your tongue, it’s deposited into the chicken casserole which you then solemnly march back into the other room with. “Bon appetit.” The past year has seen the Bag Of Cans band force their brand of surrealist indie punk on despairing members of the public at festivals and venues around the country. Highlights from a packed summer include an appearance at Reading Festival 2022 and BBC 6 Music plays courtesy of Steve Lamacq of their DIY 'Spin Cycle' release. An autumnal, and very public, signing to fierce panda records in the Murderers pub ushered the band into their sports cars and ponytails era with stuffed shows in Norwich and London, and now come these springtime dates in hot support of the 'Hostage At The Dinner Table' and 'We Are A Band' releases:
