a joyfully self-destructive fierce panda one sheet The Act: WYNONA BLEACH The Track: 'DRIPPY' (LIVE) The Format: DIGITAL SINGLE The Release Date: OUT NOW The Digital Link: https://orcd.co/drippy_live The Truth: Wynona Bleach consist of Melyssa Shannon (vocals), Jonny Woods (guitar / vocals), Aaron Black (guitar), Matty Killen (drums) and Carl Gilmore (bass). They formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2018 and 'Drippy' is their new single, taken from their debut album 'Moonsoake'. Kind of. Recorded for a lockdown BBC radio session (and never previously released), Wynona Bleach self-engineered this totally live studio take of 'Drippy' from their rehearsal room in late 2021. Because they were super excited by the energy of this version, it was mixed by Andy Bradfield and Avril Mackintosh (Manics, Tori Amos, Bjork) and intended for a broadcast that never was. "This slacker-rock inspired indie tune is about paranoia and self destruction," they muse, cheerfully. "Its original recording on our debut 'Moonsoake” was never released as a single, but this is both anecdotally a fan fave and a creative segue from the bands usual mannerisms." So very, very true. For if battered hearts and fractured emotions are the name of musical game then Wynona Bleach are on a winning bloodied streak. As previous singles ‘Glimmer’, ‘Drag’ and ‘Aubergines’ would suggest they're defiantly rock, but it’s also definitely pretty, the music forever embellished by Melyssa’s scathing little-girl-crossed vocals, no matter how lowslung or lurching. You could call it Bubblegrunge. You could well be right. Continuing the fragrantly anomalous theme, small wonder the band signed their record deal in a beach hut located in a landlocked locked down beer garden in downtown Brixton. In a previous incarnation they played a 12 date tour of Russia, covering 6500 miles. Continuing the feverish collective work ethic, the band hauled an entire studio 1400 miles from their home city to a villa in central, rural Portugal where they lived and worked in an abandoned factory creating ‘Moonsoake’, aka a string of gloriously alternative rock tunes reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins, Curve, The Joy Formidable and Wolf Alice. 'Moonsoake' is on the shortlist for NI Music Prize Album of the Year, and they have been nominated for Best Live Act to boot.
