A diamond-studded fierce panda one sheet The Act: ALBERT GOLD The Track: ‘HOUSE OF CARDS’ The Format: DIGISINGLE The Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaNHnPh0NbU The Release Date: OUT NOW The Truth: ALBERT GOLD is still very much a sweet, sweet soulpop singer from Hackney, East London. Over the past fertile few years a veritable string of subtly supple tunes has proven him to be a buoyant talent with a yearning vocal range. His bold new single for this curious new year is called ‘House Of Cards’, and he celebrated the release by bringing out his live band to headline The Social in January 13 as part of the Pandamonium ’20 Festival alongside shows by leftfield label mates such as China Bears, Italia 90 and MEMES. Co-written with Max von Ameln in the beguiling West London confines of Kensaltown Studios – scene of previous productive Gold sessions with Sacha Skarbek – ‘House Of Cards’ is a fragrant episode with a swooning falsetto-flecked sound and a bittersweet lyrical edge, as Albert himself explains: “’House Of Cards’ came pretty fast. I wanted it to be a conclusion to my song ‘Satellites’ (an Albert live favourite, which is on the new EP), kinda putting an end to a relationship before moving forward. The overall mood I would say involves my growth and learning about my self-worth. I don’t think we went in with any idea of what we wanted it to sound like but the music is very alt.pop with elements of soul - I listened a lot to the ‘Purple Rain’ album by Prince when working on the upcoming EP.” ‘House Of Cards’ is the second track from said forthcoming third ‘MOODS’ EP, due in July. This is the final release in a trilogy of extended play ventures following the ‘Oxygen’ and ‘Second’ EPs. The first track was ‘GHOST’, which was co-written in a box in Stratford with David Gledhill, the man behind the www.facebook.com/soulsweare project, and which appeared in September with some suitably spooked remixes from Electronic State following fearlessly on Halloween. Bolstered by live shows for Communion, Tipping Point, BMI / The Fix, London In Stereo, Sofar Sounds and Good Karma, and backed by consistent airplay support from Huw Stephens at Radio 1 and Gary Crowley at BBC Introducing London, Albert Gold has performed at Red Bull Studios in South London and released the ‘London Calling’ single featuring covers of cockney classics by Coldplay, The Clash and Blur. He also featured as vocalist on the jazz-flecked ‘Trouble’ single by Dutch producer Bakermat. |
