The Truth: THE COMSTOCKS are four melodically bruised sorts from Newbridge in County Kildare, Ireland. They consist of Cormac Dowdall, Evan Lynch, Dillan Hughes and Conall O Maolain. ‘Six Months’ is their gently crushed first single on fierce panda, and precedes an EP release later in the year.

Three quarters of the band bonded through the time honoured tradition of doing the hop in a school production of ‘Bugsy Malone’. Once drummer Conall joined up to complete the current line-up they realised they could be anything they wanted to be, and after a stint as Fresco Future they decided their future lay under the more sober banner of The Comstocks.

Not that ‘sober’ is the word that necessarily springs to mind when perusing the quartet’s musical musings, for theirs is slip-sliding alt.rock sound loaded down by a heavy heart and a drowsy intensity. ‘Six Months’ captures the deadpan mood of the EP (im)perfectly, carrying a rugged, weary tone with a touch of ‘There She Goes’ in the solemn jangling and a hint of a countrified Buffalo Tom, or even a deep fried Dinosaur Jr, in the gravely muscular undertow. Throw in a dash of Bill Ryder-Jones’ bruised introspection and get the party started. Slowly.

“I can change if I know it / It could stay the same if you wanted,” they croon, haplessly. Regrets? They’ve had a few. But then again, never too few to mention. The Comstocks ended 2018 with two singles – ‘London Pleasures’ and ‘40ft’ – under their collective belt as well as a support slot with buzzy fellow countrymen (and woman) Silverbacks at Dublin Whelans, and kicked off this year back at the same venue for a Ones To Watch show.

By some magical coincidence ‘Six Months’ is The Comstocks’ second ReverbNation success story, as their ‘London Pleasures’ debut was part of a tie-in between the RN musical community and the esteemed End Of The Trail Records last summer. ‘Six Months’ also becomes the fourth release as part of the ongoing creative partnership between fierce panda and the ReverbNation family: since 2018 digital singles by the the likes of LA shoegaze siren Cuesta Loeb, Nottingham electropopster Tom Shawcroft and thrusting London alt.pop tykes Hows Harry have seen the blight of day thanks to the unsigned A&R opportunities on offer over at www.reverbnation.com
