a fierce panda : 25 alive production
Good news, furry freak lovers: as part of its 25th birthday celebrations fierce panda records is heading to the seaside this spring for some Friday afternoon official showcase fun at The Great Escape. Since 1994 the tiny indie label with the big bear heart has released pivotal tracks by the likes of Placebo, Idlewild, Embrace, Keane, Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie, The Walkmen, The Maccabees and dozens and dozens more.
None of those acts will actually be joining us by the seaside, but this selection of current fresh-faced fierce panda signings very much will be…

SKINT & DEMORALISED (onstage 3.15pm) are back back back after a six year hiatus. Poetic frontman Matt Abbott and musical co-conspirator David Gledhill (aka SOULS) returned with a brrrand new single ‘Boro Kitchen 4am’ on the panda on March 29th – expect sharp-witted spoken words about the broken British landscape lying atop some punkoid guitars, with an irked album to come.
VC PINES (onstage 2.15pm) is Jack Mercer, former frontman in the Carnabys and newly reinvented purveyor of Northern Line Soul, as evinced by the current colour-splashed ‘Indigo’ EP. His is a live world of lyrical self-doubt and unselfish brass sections where a plaintive Pixies cover lounges next to lunging alt.pop beauties.
CHINA BEARS (onstage 1.15pm) are four critters cruising for an indie emo bruising with a blend of intense lyrical drama and stadium-sized outbursts of guitar. Their thoroughly ebullient ‘Stay For Good’ single came out on March 22nd with an EP appearing later in 2019.
PEEPING DREXELS (onstage 12.15pm) are five frazzled sorts from South London who revel in a ragbag of sonic truths: their current precisely-titled ‘PEEPING DREXELS.’ EP mixes snotty post-punk perambulations with flashes of creepy creeping beauty.
