The Truth: 485C are five nonchalant indierock shapeshifters lurking at the far Eastern end of the Central Line, part South Woodford, part Woodford Green. They consist of Adam Hume (vocals), Dom Watson (guitar / vocals), Lucas Hunt (drums), Rory McGowan (guitar / occasional vocals) and Sam Watkins (bass / occasional vocals). ‘Kapow!’ is their fourth single, and paves the way for the release of their debut album on the panda on March 9th.

As the title might suggest, ‘Kapow!’ goes for the pop jugular, it being a short sharp shock of winding guitars, louche vocals and dreamy harmonies, all wrapped up in 2 minutes and 49 seconds. But beware of any cartoonish insinuations – beyond the ragged demeanour and chirpy cheekbones in 485C there lurks the (he)art of a profound alt.pop poet.

Not for nothing does the second verse of ‘Kapow!’ find Adam Hume (Jim Morrison auditioning for The Strokes, in a sense) crooning: “As the infidel's sectarian approach / Couldn't wash away the sins of your own hopes / Just as babies cry pensioners close their eyes / It's not a choice to live when you have to survive .” Verily, these people are not David Guetta.

‘Kapow!’ pops out in the wake of previous similarly literate singles ‘She’ll Lie’, ‘Strange Medicine’ and ‘Better The Man’, fidgety restless radio smashers all. Along the way 485C have seen the live light, performing for Disorder at The Old Blue Last, for The Sherlocks in Milton Keynes, for John Kennedy in Tooting, for This Feeling at Nambucca, for The Great Escape in Brighton and for the bally hell of it at The Horn in St Albans.

Pantone reference fans will of course instantly recognise 485C as the colour code for post boxes, Routemaster buses and indeed the Central Line which carries them all the way back home to Woodfords both South and Green. Now come see 485C paint the town a certain hue here and there:
