The Links: The Truth: LEAONE (pronounced ‘Lee-own’) is a brooding crooner from Beccles in Suffolk with a rich, rolling sound which has seen him described as the missing link between Leonard Cohen and Lana Del Ray. ‘End Of The World’ is his new single which follows hot on the languid heels of the springtime ‘Oh, My Sweetest Sin’ EP. It opens with the lines “Oh my only one, what have you done? / I shiver when I see the ghost that you’ve become,” and doesn’t really cheer up thereafter. ‘End Of The World’ was recorded and produced by Jack Gourlay (Jess Glynne, Jack Garratt, Tom Odell) in his Stoke Newington studio, and mixed by Jim Lowe (Stereophonics). Following the moody template laid down by previous singles ‘Goldtooth’ and ‘Fly, My Swallow’, Leaone delivers deadpan lyrical musings over suitably solemn synthetic backing, including some cutely incongruous ‘80s drum fills. Touchingly, the single artwork features a photo from 1962 of Italian-American mobster Lucky Luciano’s horse drawn hearse rolling through the streets of Naples. Following live shows with the likes of Emmy The Great, Roddy Woomble, Wooden Arms, Desperate Journalist and Animal Noise, and bolstered by radio support from Huw Stephens and both BBC Introducing Norfolk AND Suffolk Leaone is now prepping for a second EP entitled ‘Wild Horse Ride On’, which will appear in September with the smooth support of Arts Council England. Intriguingly, in an interview with M Magazine late last year, when asked why music was important Leaone replied: “Because it helps to contain my madness”. Keep watching those skies… LEAONE plays this live show here: October 18th London Paper Dress Vintage (w/ Chris Hornsby) |
