* FOREVER 21: FIERCE PANDA FINALLY COMES OF AGE… * * …AND HEADS OVER (TO) THE BORDERLINE TO CELEBRATE * * LONGFELLOW, THE HOSTS AND HABITATS BRING THE BALLOONS *
On February 24th 1994 fierce panda records released the snotty ‘Shagging In The Streets’ double vinyl compilation EP, six bursts of hyper-excitement which doffed its cap to the searingly short-lived scene known as New Wave Of New Wave.
It was intended to be the label’s one and only release, which is why we named it fierce panda. If we thought we’d still be here 21 years later we wouldn’t have called it something quite so stupid.

LONGFELLOW
+ THE HOSTS
+ HABITATS
LONGFELLOW (onstage 10.00pm) have been building a gently fearsome reputation for crossover antics over the past year. Alumni of the BBC Introducing academy the fivesome have hit the Radio 2 playlist (twice) and toured with Hall & Oates (once) while simultaneously hanging around the uber-indie fierce panda farm and rattling around the London toilet circuit peddling a brand of louche alt.pop encapsulated in the current ‘Prelude’ mini-album and new ‘Medic’ single. Expect an EP called ‘Remedy’ in the spring.
THE HOSTS (ontsage 9.00pm) Last time we heard from these Sheffield retromantics they were supporting Suede in various summery forests and chewing up the playlists of Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music with their mighty singles 'September Song' and 'Give Your Love To Her'. Since then they have been locked away creating sweet melodic havoc in the studio, so expect new tinglesome tunes ahoy - one newbie we've overheard makes like The Big O auditioning for the mighty ELO - alongside the classic-sounding modern classics off the current 'Softly, Softly' album.
HABITATS (onstage 8.15pm) are a self-proclaimed four-piece indie / alternative band forging fearsome bass lines from their home base in Basingstoke and here playing a special guest first on slot before they headline the Shacklewell Arms on February 27th. Shaggy of beard, but none-too-shabby of twinkling tune, theirs is world of whipsmart sonics and sub-tropical grooves, as evinced by their sparkling ‘Diamond Days’ EP, released on Label Fandango on February 9th. |
