The Tracklisting: The Truth: British indie-rock lovehounds The Manatees release their second EP ‘Different State Of Mind’ on 23rd February 2024. They fly to SXSW at the start of March and hit the road in the UK again in April - full dates below. The 'Different State Of Mind' EP is available digitally and on limited edition silver 10" vinyl from fiercepanda.co.uk/shop.php?release=796 Following the release of previous singles ‘Get What You Want’ and 'Call You A Criminal', the latest offering ahead of their EP, produced by Tarek Musa (Spring King, Big Moon, Gengahr), the ‘Buttercup’ single came out in January writhing with high impact guitar energy. Twisting with a darker vibrance, the track is montaged with intricate guitar riffs alongside hypnotic drum paces that are electrified by transfixing reverb throughout. Speaking on ‘Buttercup’, lead singer Jay Harris says: “It’s really about how exhausting love can be. Being extremely vulnerable to someone, yet utterly addicted at the same time. I love the intricacies you pick-up within relationships, and the fact no one on the outside could ever know what it’s truly like. The longer you’re with someone, the greater those intricacies become, whilst also putting so much more on the line as you delve deeper into life together. You have to jump bigger hurdles, handle more substantial squabbles and ultimately sacrifice something along the way.” Hailing from a sleepy town on the south coast of England and now residing in London, The Manatees consist of hyperactive school friends Jay, Tyler and Miller and a litany of unfeasibly large trousers. Their shiny-but-questioning alt.melodic quests touch on hip hop samples, funk-driven basslines and sparkling guitars and have drawn knowing comparisons with everyone from MGMT to Klaxons via Jungle, Wolf Alice and The Strokes. Last summer saw the band take to various festivals across the country, including performances at Y Not Festival, Isle Of Wight Festival and BBC Introducing x The Hundred, as well as their own 11 date headline tour which included sellout shows in Manchester, Bristol, Southampton and London's The Lexington. They closed the year out with a brace of bracing supports with Sundera Karma. So rest assured there is depth to The Manatees' pop delight - the debut 'Dream In Colour' EP came out last April and openly tackled the anxieties of finding your feet in an ever-changing world, emphasising the desperateness and loneliness of growing up. Yet even this couldn't quell The Manatees' hyper-popping genre-hopping essence rare, inspiring sold out shows at The Victoria and Sebright Arms and warranting a Jack Saunders Next Wave interview on Radio One as well as much love from Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music. The band’s next headline tour takes place in spring, making stops in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Brighton, London and more throughout April 2024.
