A fragrantly maudlin fierce panda one sheet The Act: GHOST SUNS The Release: ‘NOTHING MORE’ The Format: DIGITAL SINGLE The Label: fierce panda records The Release Date: FEBRUARY 23RD 2018 The Order Link: smarturl.it/ghostsuns_nothing The Truth (of a kind): GHOST SUNS continue to be an electronic enigma wrapped in a dark ball of mysterious melodic wool. What we know is this: they consist of a French duo called Lola and Jeremy; they work out of a tiny studio in North London – Hornsey, to be precise; and they announced themselves with the terrifically pouty ‘We Are Not Good People’ EP on March 24th last year. ‘Nothing More’ is Ghost Suns’ brand new digital single which sees them take their fragrantly maudlin synthpop formula and add to in an elegantly imposing edge. Or, as they say in their own words: “A vaporous track, ‘Nothing More’ starts with an eerie sound and questions. The idea was to make this love song tense and gentle at the same time, and Lola's distorted and haunting vocals over this repeating stabby piano note suddenly brighten up into a bigger, smoother chorus.” If the sweetly sorrowful hookline of “I’m sorry, there’s nothing more to say,” is curiously reminiscent of ABBA’s broken romantic musings then this is scarcely a surprise as the French duo’s Europop provenance is impeccable. What Ghost Suns add to the mix is the ghostly air of austere electronics so enamoured of ZTT and Mute Records in the mid-‘80s, which means they peddle lovely fluid synthetic pop songs with deadpan verses and beamingly understated choruses and disco guitars and low-flying lo-fi synths and a frankly fruity commercial sheen. ‘Nothing More’ is the opening track taken from a forthcoming second EP ‘Testify’, which Ghost Suns will be testing the electropop waters with later in the Spring. Happily, eleven months ago their first ‘We Are Not Good People’ EP launched the fierce panda 2017 EP Club, which saw six fresh-faced new acts peddle extended play releases on fierce panda records over the ensuing 12 months with the cuddly support of Arts Council England. Those other acts were Leaone, Cavalry, Fightmilk, August Child and The Caress, and some of those other acts are joining Ghost Suns at one of these special shows below…
