| LONGFELLOW PLAY SPECIAL PRE-CHRISTMAS / LAST-GIG-OF-2013 / SINGLE-CAMPAIGN-LAUNCH-PARTY SHOW ON NOVEMBER 26TH
Heroically crestfallen alt.popsters Longfellow put the seal on a grand old year by, well, preparing for 2014. Their ‘Siamese Lover’ single may not be released until January 27th but the promotional campaign starts at the Buffalo Bar in Highbury on Tuesday November 26th.
With American bass player Isaac soon heading home for Christmas this represents the last Longfellow show of 2013, a year which saw our stout-hearted troubadours tickle the public’s underbelly with the self-released 'Gabrielle' single in the summer and be embraced to the bosom of the clandestine clownship known as www.fiercepandamanagement.tumblr.com not long after.
Three weeks ago Longfellow supported Keane at their tiny anniversary show in Tunbridge Wells Forum. Two weeks ago they played such a vibrant set at the Shacklewell Arms that an impressed Steve Lamacq played 'Siamese Lover' on BBC 6 Music the very next day - a mere two and-a-half months before release.
It all fits, too: if you like your music with an epic overview and a melancholic undercurrent then Longfellow could well be Your New Favourite Band. Five heartbreakers-in-waiting they consist of Owen Lloyd (vocals), Tom Warhurst (drums), James Thomas (electric guitar), Isaac Shirman (bass) and Ali Hetherington (piano / synth). They lurk in South London and create a modest, authentic and soulful mixture of indie and pop, bolstered by fearless melodies and large choruses.
'Siamese Lover' is released on January 27th on Label Fandango / fierce panda, thereby joining excellent releases by the likes of Desperate Journalist and Felt Tip. Happily, this single-campaign-launch-party show takes place at the very first venue in which fierce panda saw Longfellow play back in the spring, so this is a return to the source / sauce in many ways…
